Novelists, even those who have yet to be published, should maintain a blog about their writing to attract follows and develop an online presence.

For a writer thinking about trying to publish a novel, a professional blog about writing can be very beneficial. Many writers believe that starting a blog is a waste of time unless their book is already published, because they think no one will be interested in reading what they have to say.

However, there are plenty of new writers on the internet who are eager to share in another aspiring novelist's experience. Blogging about the journey to a completed novel and hopeful publication can help a potential author's future career, and may even increase their chances of finding a literary agent and an editor.

Blogging Novelists are a Community

As with any other profession, writers and novelists seek each other out on the Internet and comment on one another's blogs, or add each other to their blog rolls. Writing a novel is a long and often lonely process, and maintaining a blog, as well as participating in the blogs of others, can help ease the loneliness.

The aspiring novelist will soon find that other writers are experiencing the same difficulties and triumphs. The writing community is a warm and helpful one, and writers are very quick to help one another out and offer much-needed words of encouragement.

Build a Readership Early

By blogging about his/her writing process and glimpses of the novel, the novelist is increasing awareness about his book. When publication becomes a reality, the friends he has made in the blogging community will happily support him, as well as spread the word about his new novel.

There is no possible way to spread the word about something faster than the internet. Creating bonds with others in the writing community online before the novel is even published is one of the smartest moves a writer can make.

Establish a Professional Presence as a Writer Online

The days of the "hermit" novelist who takes no part in the promotion of his novel are rapidly dwindling. Agents and Editors appreciate a writer who is ready to promote his/her work, and again, the Internet is the most efficient way to accomplish this.

By maintaining a professional blog and sharing a bit of information about oneself online, agents and editors will have a better idea of how seriously the novelist takes his work. And as a bonus, blogging will help writers stay focused and disciplined with working on their novel.

Set Up a Blog Today!

Creating a blog with Wordpress, Blogger, or Tumblr is free and easy to do, and doesn't require heavy knowledge of computers. Novelists who are new to blogging will find it simple to create a clean, attractive blog and start posting right away.
